Test Files

Test Samples

To keep the project manageable, I have so far experimented with drum samples only. This essentially removes the need for processing pitch and note length. I own two sample CDs that provided many useful files:

  1. Early Patches: actually a SoundFont collection (manually created and tweaked) that includes the original raw audio files. Each .WAV contains exactly one note. Thus I can compare my automatic results with a manually generated SoundFont.
  2. Oriental Odyssey: for more advanced processing, this collection includes realistic drum grooves with multiple notes on a single instrument per file. It contains audio files only. This will be useful later (see Further Work).

MIDI Files

Various test MIDI files were created using Cakewalk, but any sequencer could have been used. For example, the file Bendir-02.mid helped determine the proper relative gain for layered samples.
